Equipment & Facilities
The UWMCC is located within the Animal Resource Care Facility (ARCF), which is a new (2017) state-of-the-art facility located on the main campus of the University of Washington. The lab space consists of four dedicated procedure rooms – two rooms designed and equipped for embryo microinjection, a tissue culture room for mouse embryonic stem (ES) cell gene targeting, and a room for embryo and sperm cryopreservation and rederivation. There are also 2 dedicated mouse housing rooms.
Specialized equipment consists of: 3 microinjection scopes/stations equipped with Eppendorf Transferman Micromanipulators and Femtojets for 1-cell injection, Bio-rad electroporator for embryo electroporation, Amaxa Nucleofector for gene-targeting, and 2 OptiMice racks to house mice surgically implanted with injected or electroporated embryos.
The Ellison Stem Cell Core is housed on the South Lake Union campus of the University of Washington (opened in August 2008, Director: Dr. Carol Ware). The core is part of the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISCRM). The laboratory has all equipment and expertise for genome editing and stem cell culture. It contains 3 tissue culture rooms and a wet lab space for molecular biology.
The Vector and Transgenic Mouse Core of the Diabetes Research Center is housed in new (2019) lab facilities on the South Lake Union campus of the University of Washington (Director: Dr. Karin Bornfeldt). The laboratory has the equipment and expertise for molecular biology and genome editing.
